11 Predictions for 2011

A little cliché, but why not:

1. It’s going to be the year of homemade soda. People are raving about it:

“You add the soda mix flavor you want, which you measure out in the cap.  I use less than a full cap because I prefer my soda not so sweet- that is the best part- YOU control the amount of flavor and carbonation!”

I couldn’t make this stuff up. Lots of people are eager to put one of these soda makers on their kitchen counter, right next to the coffee maker. And then eventually they’ll realize it’s just expensive soda that takes a long time to make and requires you to stock CO2 cartridges in your kitchen.

2. We’re going to find out how Ted Mosby met their mother.

3. Ryan Adams is going to start drinking again, and soon after he’ll put out his first good album since Jacksonville City Nights.

4. A European country is going to default.

5. Apple will mess up. It’s been a good run (1166.26% in 10 years!), and has been well-deserved. But it can’t go on forever. And then there’s Steve Jobs and the trusty magazine cover effect.

6. Cellphones will start to get viruses.

7. James Spector’s first meal of the year will be a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich.

8. Facebook will go public.

9. There will be more robots doing cool things.

10. They’re going to find a Higgs-Boson! But only one.

11. Readership of this blog will increase by 50% (from 2 to 3 people!).

Mos Def? Anybody?

Disclosure: I’m long SODA and AAPL.

Top 7 Albums of 2010

All of my favorite bloggers are posting their year end lists, so on day three of this site, I figured I’d post my own. I’ll be honest. My original plan was to put together a full top 10 list, but I just couldn’t come up with 10 albums from this past year that I’m actually excited about. But I really enjoyed these seven (in no particular order):

1. Acrade Fire – The Suburbs
2. LCD Sound System – This is Happening
3. The Black Keys – Brothers
4. Broken Bells (Self Titled)
5. Kanye West – My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
6. Monsters of Folk (Self Titled)
7. Ok Go – Of the Blue Colour of the Sky

The best music video goes to Ok Go for doing ridiculous things with dogs:

And the weirdest video goes to Kanye. I don’t even know what to say. But I do know I would’ve loved to be a fly on the wall when he tried explaining this idea to his producer.

On a side note, I’m pretty sure nobody is actually reading this, but at least I now have a nice record of what music I enjoyed over the past year. And if anyone out there found my blog (mom?), post anything I missed in the comments.
