“It Kinda Sounds Like Wilco”
Via Pitchfork, here’s the latest song from Specer Tweedy, who’s the son of Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy:
Orpheo Looks Back
I just got the new Andrew Bird album, ‘Break It Yourself’. It’s a pretty amazing record – I think it might be his best. But that’s always a hard and subjective thing to decide. Anyways, here’s a live performance of my favorite track from a concert in Brooklyn last month:

We Need Your Help!
Over the past few months I’ve been playing the guitar in Vanessa Kafka’s band. Vanessa’s written some great new songs since her last album, and we’re raising some money on Kickstarter to go record an EP: If you’d like to support the project, click here. You can pre-order the EP, buy a ticket to the release party, get the band to cook dinner for you, get a private show, and more. Also, here’s ‘Warm’ from our show at Sally O’Brien’s last December:
Jeff Tweedy Walks Away With Olive Oyl
Thanks to James Spector and Dean Toulan for sharing this. It’s the first hand-drawn Popeye cartoon made in over thirty years. And it’s the music video for Wilco’s Dawned On Me off The Whole Love. Classic:
Gillian Welch & David Rawlings at the Wilbur Theater – December 13, 2011
I’ve had a good week of music. I saw Ryan Adams last Thursday, the White Owls Monday, and then Gillian Welch and David Rawlings Tuesday. It was the last show of Gillian and David’s tour, and they put on a spectacular show. I’ve never seen someone play the guitar as deliberately as Rawlings does. He closes his eyes and just dominates the fret board. I recorded a few clips. Here’s ‘Look at Miss Ohio’: Look at Miss Ohio And here’s ‘I’ll Fly Away’ from the ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?’ soundtrack: I’ll Fly Away
The White Owls at Toad – Dennis Brennan and Tim Gearan
I saw them the other night at Toad with a friend visiting from Austin. I’d say Tim Gearan is one of the best guitar players in town. If you haven’t seen him, his band plays every Friday night at Atwood’s Tavern in Cambridge. Here are a few clips I shot. Not the best quality, but you’ll get the idea:
