This fall I’ve been playing the guitar with the Rolling Sloans, the MIT Sloan cover band. We had a show a few weeks back at Tommy Doyle’s in Harvard Square. It was a great time, and here are a few clips filmed by Natacha Hardy: All My Loving: Don’t Look Back in Anger Part 1: Don’t Look Back in Anger Part 2 (Sean Lee Kills it): Just a Girl: Say It Ain’t So: The Band is: Robin Bose – Vocals Charlotte Rocker – Vocals Vanessa Kafka – Guitar/Vocals Sean Lee – Guitar/Vocals Eugene Feldman – Keys Robbie Hobbs – Drums Anand Desai – Bass Jamie Fordyce – Bass Antonio Yanez – Guitar Myself – Guitar I’ve heard there are a

The Arcade Fire at Neil Young’s Benefit Concert
Here’s a great 40 minute performance by the Arcade Fire from earlier this month. They played at a benefit that Neil Young hosted to raise money for a school for children with disabilities: They’re awesome.
Trampled by Turtles
Last weekend I discovered a great bluegrass/folk band while having a few drinks at Stoddard’s Fine Food & Ale. Trampled By Turtles, if you’re into this sort of thing:

The Doctor Doom Orchestra
From a Doctor Doom Orchestra show at the Paradise last month, my good friend Mr. Dave Pratt takes a solo on the sax, followed by a harmonica solo by the Doctor:

The Whole Love
Wilco’s new album is streaming from their website for the next 24 hours. The official release isn’t until September 27th. I’m about to listen. Check it out here.
Nashville, Tennessee
Nashville’s got quite the music scene. There’s live country music in dozens of venues from noon-3:00am daily, with no covers. I got here Friday and probably saw twelve bands play over two days. Somehow I ended up with a pair of cowboy boots too. I like it here. Here’s a clip from Friday night. Wagon Wheel is a pretty popular cover around town:
Outside Lands, Muse
I went to Outside Lands this past weekend, and was lucky to catch a very impressive lineup: Ok Go, The Black Keys, Sia, The Roots, Vetiver, the Old 97’s, and Muse. The whole festival was run surprisingly well – there were next to no lines for anything (beer, food, bathrooms), it was crowded but didn’t feel claustrophobic, the food was great, parking was easy, and it took no time to get between the four stages. The highlight was definitely Muse. They didn’t have a light show. They had a laser show. This is 2011. Here’s a short clip from the iPhone:
